Yvonne Orji and Lil Rel Howery are the straitlaced, level-headed couple who become vacation friends with a fun-loving, uninhibited couple while on a holiday at a luxury retreat in Mexico. What could possibly go wrong?
Desperate to propose to Emily his girlfriend in style at an exclusive resort in Mexico, Marcus, played by Lil Rel Howery (Get Out, Fatherhood) seems to have run out of luck when his well-laid plans fall flat and he is forced to ask Emily, played by Yvonne Orji (Insecure, Mama I Made It) to marry him in the hotel lobby. Catching the attention of wild, thrill-seeking couple Ron (John Cena) and Kyla (Meredith Hagner), whose fault it is that their plans have gone awry, they accept an offer to share their presidential suite hotel room. Cue the holiday high jinks. Throwing caution to the winds, the normally conservative Marcus and Emily let loose in a big way and begin to enjoy a week of uninhibited fun and debauchery with their new “vacation friends.”

However, what happens in Mexico, doesn’t stay in Mexico as months after their walk on the wild side, Marcus and Emily are horrified when Ron and Kyla show up uninvited at their wedding causing chaos and disruption and also bringing a little souvenir from their time in Mexico, now months past.
This funny comedy is a light-hearted watch, and you will watch the crazy actions of Ron and Kyla from the level-headed and prim perspective of Marcus and Emily.
The film didn’t manage to avoid the stereotype of disapproving future parents in law, played by Andrew Bachelor as Gabe and Lynn Whitfield as Suzanne. Trying desperately to win over his father in law’s affection, Marcus bumbles from one disappointment to the next. It doesn’t help when Ron effortlessly manages to win over Gabe by just being himself.
While the film centres around the wedding of Emily and Marcus, the real romance, or should we say bromance is between the growing friendship and affection between Marcus and Ron. The unlikely pair, with their chalk and cheese personalities highlight the importance of acceptance and the value of stepping outside of your box to explore life in a different way, even if it’s for a short time, and that you should never judge a book by its cover.
Momma, she made it! Yvonne Orji’s comedy special now on Sky Comedy
It’s great to see Lil Rel holding the lead in this film and using his now familiar “sensible Black man” and fast-talking brand of humour to bring the laughs. Yvonne played his devoted girlfriend/fiancée to perfection and looked absolutely fabulous.
