Congratulations to Sophie Okonedo, for winning Best Actor – Female at the Royal Television Society (RTS) Awards last night (21 March) in London for her role in the BBC drama, Undercover.
Starring alongside fellow thespian, Adrian Lester, the six-part British drama is the first to feature two black actors in leading roles.
Undercover follows the lives and family of Maya Cobbina, (Sophie Okonedo), a spirited and passionate barrister who is about to become the first black Director of Public Prosecutions. But just as Maya’s life comes under intense public scrutiny, she discovers that Nick (Adrian Lester), her husband and the father of her children, has been lying to her for years.
Sophie’s acting career began in 1991, and in that time she has received numerous accolades including an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Tatiana Rusesabagina in the 2004 film Hotel Rwanda as well as a Golden Globe nomination for the miniseries Tsunami: The Aftermath (2006).
