Actively involved in the making of the documentary, Adams said: “I’ve dedicated my life to boxing and wanted to share my journey with my incredible fans, who have supported me every step of the way and kept me going through all the trials and tribulations I’ve been through over the years.”
“I hope this documentary will help inspire young people to realise that whatever adversities life might throw at you, you can overcome them. Sometimes it might feel as if the world is stacked against you, but through hard work, passion and determination you can achieve your dreams.”
The premiere date of Lioness: The Nicola Adams Story was announced as 12 November 2021 in the UK and Ireland during the recent Prime Video Presents Sport Showcase Event in London, where the official trailer was also debuted in an on-stage Q&A with Nicola Adams and the film’s director, Helena Coan.
When asked why she decided to make the documentary, Adams said: “I knew that my story would inspire someone. When I was younger, I decided to keep the footage from my first fight away from media as I knew I was going to put it into a film one day…filming felt like therapy, I was reliving my childhood and everything it took to get me where I am.”
When asked about what she hopes people will take away from her documentary, Adams said: “I hope that when people watch this, they feel inspired and encouraged to pursue their dreams, as you only have one life.”
In what has been a truly inspiring career so far, the documentary shows the real sacrifices and obstacles Adams has made to get to where she is today. Adams: “I went from breaking my back to winning a gold medal at the 2012 Olympics, all in the space of two years.” Truly remarkable.
Lioness: The Nicola Adams Story is directed by Helena Coan and produced by Nick Taussig and Annabel Wigoder and Laure Vaysse of Rep Productions.
