Celebrating its 20th year, the BET Awards 2020 will broadcast both in the UK and US simultaneously on Monday 29 June 2020 at 9PM (BST), with the pre-show virtual red carpet starting from 8PM.
As usual, nominees reflect an abundance of creative expression and Black excellence across music, television, film, sports, and philanthropy.
It’s good to see some of our UK faves getting nominations. Stormzy and Dave got a look-in with nominations in the Best International Act category along with Burna Boy for Nigeria. Emerging Soul sensation Celeste also received a nod in the Viewers’ Choice: Best New International Act category along with Young T & Bugsey.
However, leading with the greatest number of nominations is Drake with six nods including Best Male Hip Hop Artist, Video of the Year, and two nods for both Best Collaboration and Viewer’s Choice for his features alongside Chris Brown (No Guidance) and Future (Life Is Good).
Rounding of what has been a very successful year for her, Megan Thee Stallion secured five nominations including Best Female Hip Hop, Best Collaboration, Video of the Year, Album of the Year, and Viewer’s Choice Award. Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown all got four nominations each.
Now in its twentieth year, the BET AWARDS continues its reign as the platform to celebrate Black music’s present and future, and elevating the culture and being a driving force for social change.
BET recognizes artists, entertainers, and athletes across 21 categories, selected by BET’s Voting Academy, which is composed of fans and an esteemed group of entertainment professionals in the fields of television, film, music, social media, digital marketing, sports journalism, public relations, and creative arts.
