Model and actor, Broderick Hunter has appeared on Insecure HBO’s Insecure, been named as one of People Magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” and listed as one of the “Most Stylish Male Models” on Instagram by GQ magazine. But, it’s not been an easy journey to get where he is today having been through many rejections and being told that “Dark skin boys are no longer in”. Broderick was earlier this month invited by Success Talks, a platform that gives influencers a chance to tell their story, and he did.
A captive audience of young professionals heard how Broderick initially wanted to become a basketball player, but his path changed and he now has an enviable modeling career, having been featured in Italian GQ and French Vogue as well as being the face of Ralph Lauren.
Broderick dropped some valuable knowledge on the night, valuable to anyone, in any field with ambitions of being successful. “Know yourself, know your worth and be genuine!” is a good summary of his talk on the night.

Don’t conform
“Go against the grain…and watch what happens.” If you be yourself and be unique in what you want to do, you will achieve a lot more than just following everyone else.
Draw a three-month outline
In order to achieve your goals, set out what you want to do in the next few months. For example, write down what you wish to have accomplished or where you wish to be in the next three months. Then extend this to a six-months, a year, five years etc.
Keep people of value around you
Surround yourself with people who are going to build you up and not tear you down. People who want to see you succeed and are not jealous of your accomplishments because these are the people that are most valuable and irreplaceable.

Don’t take every opportunity just because it looks good
Just because you have been presented with an opportunity that looks good, doesn’t mean that it is good. Pick wisely. At the end of the day, you need to do what is best for yourself long term.
