Entergalactic: As smooth and seductive as the film’s soundtrack, Kid Cudi’s animated love story is a trippy, smooth watch.
There’s nothing like getting lost in a good romantic film to whisk an overworked mum away from reality for a good couple of hours. ‘Black Love’ is getting its long-overdue moment in the sun in recent movies with soulful, unproblematic, trauma-free storytelling that centres Black on Black love and we’re here for it.
Films like The Photograph (Issa Rae and Lakeith Stanfield), Sylvie’s Love (Tessa Thompson and Nnamdi Asomugha) and A Journal for Jordan show the beauty of Black love; unambiguous and true, that many film buffs with a penchant for romance, have been craving.
“‘Black Love’ is getting its long-overdue moment in the sun…”
Season 2 of Love Life shown in the UK on the BBC is another notable example of a trauma free narrative of ‘man meets woman, they fall in love, encounter misunderstandings, clear it up and live happily ever after’. In a complicated world, sometimes that’s all one wants to watch. Coincidentally, the lead in Love Life, Jessica Williams is once again the female protagonist in the Kid Cudi-written and produced Entergalactic.
Entergalactic comes to us straight from the complex mind of music sensation Kid Cudi and Kenya Barris, who brought us the wonderful Black-ish, is its executive producer.
The immersive, animated Entergalactic tells the story of two creatives at the top of their game who are navigating the twists and turns of finding love in New York City. Jabari — voiced by Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi — is trying to find success, but also happens upon love when he moves into his dream apartment and is introduced to his new neighbour, photographer it-girl Meadow — voiced by Jessica Williams.
“The immersive, animated Entergalactic tells the story of two creatives at the top of their game who are navigating the twists and turns of finding love in New York City.”
The engaging dialogue invites you to dream along with our two successful, creatives living in their spacious New York lofts.
The inspired use of animation for this film lent a new, fresh angle to this genre, but make no mistake, the content is for mature audiences only, confirmed by the trippy, sensuous soundtrack accompanying the film. Trust us you’re going to search for the playlist as soon as the film is over.
Bursting with an all-star cast including Ty Dolla $ign, Timothée Chalamet, Jaden Smith, Keith David and Teyana Taylor, this film is a dreamy, heart-warming love story that will make you smile. As known for being a respected rapper, despite his well-documented health issues in recent years, Kid Cudi has also released an album of the same name featuring his signature melodic spacey rhythms, which probably informed the name of the album.
Sadly, for his music fans he may be retiring his Kid Cudi music persona to focus on film for his next chapter. Judging from what we’ve seen of Entergalactic, Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi has the golden touch. Whatever he wants to turn his hand to, he’s going to be alright.
