Thirty-two years after the original, the first images of Eddie Murphy’s Coming 2 America are out, and like fine wine, the original cast look better than ever.

As we reported last month, Coming 2 America would launch globally in more than 240 countries on Amazon Prime Video on 5 March 2021, and now, we get a tantalising first look at Eddie and some of the original gang from Coming To America.

Looking like they’ve been sipping from the fountain of youth, King Akeem (Eddie), his Queen (Shari Headley) and best friend Semmi, played by Arsenio Hall, look suitably regal in the newly released stills.

The sequel to the popular film tells the story of how while getting ready to become the king of Zamunda, Akeem learns that he fathered a son (played by Jermaine Fowler) on his last trip to Queens, New York with newcomer Leslie Jones’s character.

Joining these new cast members are Teyana Taylor, KiKi Layne, Tracy Morgan, Rick Ross, and Wesley Snipes while old favourites like Vanessa Bell Calloway, Paul Bates, John Amos, and James Earl Jones return.

Helping the cast to nail the royal look, award-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter, who has worked on more than 40 films including Black Panther and Eddie Murphy’s Dolemite Is My Name, was in charge of wardrobe.

Speaking about what it means to bring back Coming 2 America, Eddie told Digital Spy:”

“This is the perfect time to return to Zamunda because it’s been a while since we’ve had a great comedy that everybody can enjoy. Zamunda is a very funny place, and the world needs that right now.”

We couldn’t agree more.

Amazon Studios will exclusively release Coming 2 America globally on Prime Video 5 March 2021
