Now, a recent viral video showed a heart-warmingly sweet couple, George and Marcia who have been married for 49 years. The video shares the secret to their long marriage and it’s really giving us life. Follow these steps for long-term happiness till death do you part.

George explains that he was raised by his grandparents. His grandfather told him that “whenever you get married, and you and your wife have disagreements or falling out, it should stay within your own home…It doesn’t go outside the walls. Because this is between you and me.” Marcia agrees saying you can be upset with somebody and not agree – but it’s never going to be that serious when you love them.

They both think that the modern idea of love based solely on feeling is not one that’s conducive to a long and happy marriage. Marcia says that “The whole concept of love, commitment and marriage are not in its proper place today.” She goes on to say that because a lot of females and some males think that love is “butterflies in your stomach and you looking perfect all the time. Him smelling good and treating you like royalty all the time.” Many young people go into relationships with the wrong idea and misunderstand that it comes with negatives too.

Marcia says, “It’s not just feeling when you love somebody. It’s a decision. That you’ve chosen this person and you’re going to be committed to this person. There are going to be tests, trials and struggles. You’re not always going to agree on the same thing.” Today’s mind-set rides only on feeling without commitment and too many people think “this isn’t working anymore, I’m out.”

They both agree that the problem with relationships today is that they are often primarily selfish. Marcia explains how George dotes on her in practical ways that show the extent of his love.

“When I get ready to leave the house, he’s got my glasses sitting on my purse. He knows me and cares enough about what I need and all my shortcomings because I’m very forgetful and he gets ahead of that. Those things are worth gold.” She says that’s why “technically 51 years later” she knows she’s got a keeper for life.
