Our favourite Hijab model, Halima Aden headlined the first-ever Modest Fashion Festival, which took place in Mayfair, London, on Saturday 21 October 2017.

We’re thrilled that the modest fashion trend continues to pick up pace and grow. It’s about time that discerning female Modest dressers are being catered to on a larger scale. Earlier this year, we reported on the Modanisa London Modest Fashion Week, and the Modest Fashion Festival is the latest platform aimed at connecting modest fashion wearers with luxurious, contemporary brands from around the world.

Four hundred guests attended the red-carpet event at the Grosvenor House Hotel, where seven leading international designers presented their couture collections in two catwalk shows headlined by hijab-wearing supermodel Halima Aden.

The evening included two fashion catwalks, fine dining, a luxury boutique and a charity auction. Halima got visibly excited when it was announced that a pair of VIP tickets to an Arsenal V Man U match was the prize in one of the charity lots. It turns out she is a huge Arsenal fan! Who knew?

Aden opened the fashion show walking for Meryem Boussikouk (Morocco), who wowed with her stunning kaftans featuring exquisite hand-stitched embroidery. Mira Indria (Indonesia) followed with elegantly sophisticated predominantly white couture gowns, then BTHAINA (Oman), whose beautiful kaftans and abayas came in bold colours and luxurious fabrics. Renowned British designer Raishma, who trained under Elizabeth Emanuel and is now set to take the Middle East by storm, closed the first show with her glamorous floor-length gowns.

The second show started with Hengki Kawilarang’s (Indonesia) head-turning collection of luxurious evening dresses. Fellow Indonesian designer Vivi Zubedi was next, adding contemporary touches to traditional abayas, a combination that has propelled her rapid rise since first launching in 2011. Omani designer Amal Al Raisi provided the final catwalk of the evening; her contemporary chic day and evening wear effortlessly crossing the East-West divide of Modest Fashion attire.

The event was curated by Modest Fashion Festival co-founder Sultana Tafadar. Speaking after the event, she said:

“It was a phenomenal evening. Our diverse guests looked fabulous and the couture shows were spectacular – beautiful clothes that any woman would love to wear. Halima Aden was sensational and – as the media frenzy and crowds around her showed – a supermodel in every sense of the word.”
