The Queen of Rock ’n’ Roll is coming to the West End!
Adored for both her musical success and strength of character, having gone through so much in her personal life, Tina Turner is simply the best! A new musical, based on the life of the Private Dancer singer, will be taking up residence at the Aldwych Theatre from March 2018.
TINA, written by Katori Hall and directed by Phyllida Lloyd, follows the singer’s journey from her early beginnings in Nutbush, Tennessee to blossoming into a worldwide superstar as she defied the bounds of her age, gender and her race along the way.
Born Anna Mae Pollock, Tina Turner first rose to fame in the 1960s when she and her then-husband, Ike Turner, became a musical duo. A bitter and volatile split between Ike and Tina soon followed, which was chronicled in the movie, What’s Love Got to Do with it? with Angela Bassett starring as Tina.
Today, Tina is regarded as one of the most successful female Rock ‘n’ Roll artists of all time, with Grammys under her belt.
On the production, Tina Turner said:
“I am so excited to be bringing my musical to the West End! London is a place that means so much to me and had such a big impact on my music and my life. Returning now to tell my full story, in the city I love, feels like an important chapter and is truly exciting.”
