A product range for Afro natural hair co-created by a team of Black scientists and dermatologists? Yes please! Two years ago, Pantene’s Gold Series caused many in the natural hair community to take notice. Now, Pantene has introduced three more products to their range, specifically for women with relaxed, natural or transitioning hair.
The three new products joining the Gold Series, brings the total number of products in the haircare and styling range products up to nine, catering for all aspects of the wash and styling process.
The three new products include:
Pantene Gold Series Sulphate Free Shampoo
This powerful sulphate free formula is infused with Argan oil to gently cleanse and instantly soften dry, damaged hair. The rich lather of Gold Series Sulphate Free Shampoo works to remove build up without stripping hair of its natural oils and is perfect for use in treated hair. Plus, this formula is free of parabens, sulphates and silicones to keep hair looking and feeling healthy.
Pantene Gold Series Curl Defining Pudding
Developed by scientists and perfected by stylists, this Pro-Vitamin formula is infused with Argan oil and whipped into a pudding with a light hold. Use this to help create beautifully soft, defined, frizz-free curls. It is Paraben-free, sulphate-free, and dye-free.
Pantene Gold Series Thermal Heat Protector
Pantene Pro-V Gold Series Thermal Heat Protector helps protect hair from thermal styling (up to 450 degrees!) and frizz while conditioning for strong, healthy hair, so you don’t have to make that sacrifice (strength against breakage). Pantene Thermal Heat Protector helps prevent heat tool related damage before it occurs, making hair resilient against breakage for smooth, beautiful style.

No stranger to attracting high profile support, Pantene recently launched their #powerofhair campaign, which included boxer and model, Ramla Ali who was chosen as one of three Power Squad ambassadors’.
Speaking about her involvement in the campaign and what her hair means to her, Ali said: “My hair has always been a huge part of my identity but growing up I never felt truly comfortable with how it looked. Now, I love being a bit different. My hair gives me the confidence to have my game face on – in and out of the ring.”
Also involved in the campaign was celebrity hair stylist, Errol Douglas, whose passion for hair goes back decades. In an Instagram post, he talked about the power of feeling good about our crowns. He said: “The beautiful thing about hair is that it has the power to transform a person, the way they look, the way they carry themselves, their sense of self. It’s what I, and every great hairdresser lives for.”
“It is affirming and essential to see a haircare brand like Pantene offer the same level of commitment to all women and recognise the truly transformative power of hair. I wholeheartedly support the mission to help more women have great hair days!”
We love how at the heart of the Gold Series is the fact that it is steeped in research from studies on afro hair in the United States, Brazil, Nigeria and Kenya. The Pantene team, made up of Black scientists and dermatologists, worked tirelessly to decode the biology of afro hair to formulate the collection.
Pantene Scientist, Rolanda Wilkerson PhD, who was involved in the original development of the range, had this to say:
“To create Gold Series, we studied the practices of women with afro hair – we asked them what they felt was missing from current products and what they thought their hair needed. This collection reflects the years of research and in-depth analysis of our unique hair type with a blend of ingredients that has been tailored to provide the right level of moisturisation; whether your hair is relaxed, natural or transitioning.”
