They say being a mother is one of the toughest jobs in the world. Not only is it a lifetime commitment with no guidebook, it’s also an eternal balancing act, especially if you’re in the public eye.
For non-famous mothers with no nannies, no million-pound advertising contracts and no self-cleaning California mansion, the struggle to raise kids while providing for them is no doubt a hard one. Luckily, the smile on your little ones’ (or big ones’) face make it all worthwhile in the end…
Mother’s Day and International Women’s Day last week inundated our news feeds with mother-baby selfies, mum-appreciation posts and strong, inspirational women. We couldn’t help but coo over some of our favourite celebs who aren’t just setting a solid example to their children, but seem to just have this motherhood thing down to a T.
Serena Williams
Queen of tennis Serena Williams has been in the news recently talking about her comeback to the sport only six months after she gave birth. In an Instagram Live session last Wednesday, baby Alexis Olympia played with a baby-sized tennis racket, no doubt taking after her superstar mother. Serena will be returning to tennis, starting with the Women’s Tennis Association Tour.
Rochelle Humes
Ex-Saturdays star Rochelle Humes generally keeps her two babies away from the public eye which, for this day and age, is quite rare. Now and again, she will tease us with a snap of their hair or the backs of their heads showing nothing but beautiful curls. She revealed last month on Instagram that she’s been working on a secret project: a children’s hair and skin range for young curls.
Jessica Ennis-Hill
British Olympian and mother of two, is there anything Jessica Ennis-Hill can’t do? Reggie and Olivia will grow up to learn that mum is a winner of a heptathlon gold medal at London 2012 so there’s no doubt they will be ambitious kids. She’s recently been in the news for inspiring British windsurfer champion, Bryony Shaw, that you can be an athlete as well as a mother.
Beyoncé
In many ways, Beyoncé has mothered us all. From teaching us how to deal with a breakup or teaching us that women are just as strong as men, her lessons ripple endlessly across generations. Now a mother of three, she can no doubt bring the sass into probably the most un-glamorous job in the world. Granted she probably has a nanny for each of her children, but Beyoncé’s matriarchal approach to, well, everything makes us look up to her all the same.
Ciara
Ciara’s International Women’s Day post last week was a depiction of her pregnant self and last year, she gave birth to her second child, a daughter called Sienna Princess Wilson. She also has a son, Future Zahir Wilburn, from her previous relationship and the levels of cute are off the scale.
Ami McClure
Capturing the hearts of the internet, the McClure twins, Ava and Alexis, went viral last year from a YouTube video where the two little girls realised they were identical. Their mother and blogger, Ami McClure has since given birth to a son and her videos explore issues such as her interracial relationship, motherhood and documenting her gorgeous girls, translating their adorable baby language with helpful subtitles.
Patricia Bright
One of the most popular UK bloggers, Patricia Bright, brought her followers on her motherhood journey since she was pregnant. Her and her husband Mike’s first baby, Grace, is now the regular subject of her vlog posts and she features regularly in her Instagram photos too. Somehow, she still has time to look incredible and keep up with her multiple businesses, so we want whatever she’s having.
Kelly Rowland
Kelly Rowland’s son, Titan Jewell, is not yet three but apparently can already play the piano and with a musical mogul for a mum, we’re not surprised. The 36-year old also supports other mothers by donating and endorsing American baby charity, Baby2Baby, which provides baby necessities to low-income families.
Jada Pinkett Smith
Imagine being famous, having a famous husband and two (nearly) grown-up famous children. For Jada Pinkett Smith, this is no imagination and her children are really coming into their own. Jaden and Willow are trendsetters, music-makers and fashionistas and Jada looks as proud as can be of her talented kids. We also can’t get enough of her timeless relationship with Will – Mum goals and relationship goals.
