Not even six months since launching its online directory of Afro-Caribbean hair and beauty salons, Tress Free (read our launch coverage), which allows you to search and book appointments with industry professionals, launched its first live exhibition on 7 January 2017 at The Hoxton Basement, in London.

Giving credence to the knowledge that women of colour don’t play with their hair and beauty game, the trendy and intimate rooms of the Hoxton Basement were packed with fashionable and beautifully turned out women eager to browse and network with key exhibitors, some of whom included All Shades Covered, Afrocenchix and Lily Sana Haircare. Fashion and beauty journalist Shannon Wright, hosted a hugely popular interactive panel which saw hair and beauty aficionado’s talk about their journey so far as well as offering tips and advice to the attentive crowd. The panel included Lizzie Loves (Hair and Beauty YouTuber), Clare Anyiam-Osigwe (CEO, Premae Skincare), Patricia Odje (Creative Director, The MUA Hub) and Latenda Kalimba (Founder of Latenda Hair Salon).

Not everyone is clued up on how to get the perfect ‘facebeat’ and so attendees were thrilled with the live makeup demonstration offered by Kemi from Kemi B Artistry. Another highlight was music provided by the one and only Nadia Jae!

Founder of Tress Free, Princess Onitilo, was thrilled with the success of her first event. She said:

“Since launching in August, Tress Free has established itself in the industry for women of colour, providing piece of mind for its growing customer base and connecting like-minded brands. We aim to be the ultimate destination for bloggers, business owners and hair/beauty lovers with plans to evolve Tress Free Live into an annual extravaganza.”
