An investor, entrepreneur, advocate and mum of three, June Angelides is a rare breed, and not just because she is one of the few Black women in the Venture Capital space.

Regarded by the Financial Times and Forbes as one of the most influential British women in tech, June was the founder of the first child-friendly coding school in the UK, Mums in Tech, which taught more than 250 women to code in three years.

A strong advocate for the rights of working mothers and women of colour in business, further recognition of her achievements came in the form of an MBE award in October 2020 for services to women in technology.

June comes from a family of successful entrepreneurs, and with her analytics and banking background, it was during maternity leave with her second child that June came up with the idea of Mums in Tech, after failing to find face to face coding lessons that worked around mum life.

In her collaboration with GAP UK, June spoke to her passions and talked about the importance of equal rights for women in business, particularly women of colour.

“My advice to every budding founder out there is that the field is wide open, just trust yourself and be confident.”

June said, “I feel so strongly that I was put on this Earth to be an agent of change.”

“I want every young girl and women to know that they can achieve anything they set out to do.”

“Quite frankly there really aren’t enough women in leadership positions, and only a handful of them are women of colour. We need to see more role models, so that the next generations recognise that they absolutely deserve to have a seat at the table.”

“I really strongly believe in destiny and purpose, and I quite honestly think that I was put on this Earth to be an agent of change. I want every young girl to believe that she can achieve anything that she sets out to do.”

“My advice to every budding founder out there is that the field is wide open, just trust yourself and be confident.”
