The King of Pop passed away more than eight years ago, but even in death, Michael Jackson’s legacy is moon-walking its way to a vast fortune, managing to out-earn many top artistes who are still alive!
Forbes’ released their annual list of The Top-Earning Dead Celebrities of 2017, and unsurprisingly, Jackson topped the list once again for the fifth time in a row.
How? Well, the late singer’s fortune was estimated to be $75 million this year and although it is quite a drop from last year’s earnings of $825 million, it is still an impressive amount for someone who passed away since 2009.
The estate of Michael Jackson has been busy this year. During the Halloween weekend, the CBS Halloween special, Michael Jackson’s Halloween, was aired. In September, the new compilation album, Scream, featuring some of the singer’s greatest hits, was released. Additionally, the Cirque du Soleil show in Las Vegas, Michael Jackson ONE, and a stake in the EMI music publishing catalog helped boost Jackson’s earnings.
Others who made the list were fellow artistes Bob Marley who came in at 5th with $23 million, due to the sustainability focused House of Marley audio products and the Marley Beverage Co, and Prince in seventh place in $18 million.
