Multi award-winning hairdresser Charlotte Mensah continues to buck the trend and challenge the status quo by breaching the barriers into mainstream recognition as an ambassador for natural Afro hair.
Only eight months after launching her flagship Manketti Oil Collection, this week, she added to her awards tally with an additional two honours in less than 48 hours – ‘Best Product For Afro Hair’ at the marie claire Hair Awards and ‘Styling Team of the Year’ at the Black Beauty/Sensationnel Hair Awards.
This last award saw her being inducted into their hall of fame for winning the accolade a phenomenal three times!
We were first inspired by Charlotte’s story a few months ago when we interviewed her to learn about her hair journey, even then she had just won a prestigious Stylist Award. She told us how she had worked for years to perfect the product that would become the Manketti Oil Collection, which is aimed at delivering moisture, softness, definition and shine to Afro, mixed-race and all curl hair types, whilst still allowing weightless movement.
Highly respected in the industry, she was the lead hairstylist at the recent Ghana Fashion and Design Week, where she took global news platform AJ+ behind the scenes, which resulted in a clip that has now had more than 1.6 million views.
And if all of the above accomplishments weren’t enough, Charlotte Mensah was also one of just 12 women to be hand-picked to appear on the front cover of leading hair trade title HJ in their special November 2016 issue, which celebrated the most inspirational women in hairdressing. Charlotte was heralded as an ‘Afro Hair Trendsetter’ lauded for helping to bring Afro Hairdressing into the mainstream.
Speaking about her recent achievements, Charlotte said:
“After working for six years to bring it to market, I thought the launch of my Manketti Hair Oil Collection in March would be the highlight of my year. So to then go on and win the marie claire Hair Award, Best Beauty By Stylist award, be inducted into the Black Beauty/Sensationnel Hair Awards Hall of Fame, appear on the HJ cover and achieve so many views for the Ghana Fashion Week video has left me lost for words.
I feel truly blessed and appreciative that all the long hours, hard work and commitment I’ve invested over the years are paying off. I’m now looking forward to spending a relaxing Christmas with my family and then coming back revitalised and ready to make 2017 even bigger and better.”
