We can’t get enough of this Mother’s Day Card range; and you’ll love it too

The countdown to Mother’s Day (Sunday 31 March 2019) is on and what better way to say ‘Thank You’ to the super mum in your life than with a card that truly represents and depicts her in all her melanin glory? We urge you not to sleep on this fabulous new card range from Nicola Lespeare.

We first discovered Nicola Lespeare, and her brand of celebration cards featuring black people and culture a couple of years ago when we highlighted her #3GiftsChallenge. Since then, she has expanded and we’re thrilled to see that she has just released an absolutely gorgeous Mother’s Day Card range, now available on her website.

The artwork for the Mother’s Day range features a number of sassy, dark-skinned toned women in various situations, styles and poses; any mum would be genuinely thrilled to receive one of Nicola’s cards on Mother’s Day.

What’s more, recognising that all the mum’s in our lives deserve a pat on the back, the Mother’s Day range also Motheincludes ‘Grandma’ and ‘Auntie’ cards too.

“Seeing her expression and how she resonated with her celebration card in that moment, made me want to recreate the same happy experience for others.”

Speaking about what inspired her to start her business on her website, Nicola, a digital illustrator, said: “Unable to find a fro-fabulous birthday card of a black girl rockin’ her afro for my sisters’ birthday, I decided to sketch my own unique birthday card. Experimenting with my creative abilities which I hadn’t used for some years, I excitedly sketched an illustration of a girl with radiant melanin skin, clutching a bunch of balloons and wearing the biggest afro.

“My sister loved her card and was so happy to receive a birthday card that reflected aspects of her physical characteristics, such as her skin tone and hair texture.

“Seeing her expression and how she resonated with her celebration card in that moment, made me want to recreate the same happy experience for others.”
