For many of us, a holiday is not complete without enjoying a serene, relaxing session at a spa of our choice.
The hustle and bustle of daily life means that every opportunity we get to indulge in acts of self-care should be grabbed with both hands. It looks like our sisters on the continent have the same idea, with ever more spa retreats gaining more popularity and opening up across every corner of Africa.
Moiyattu Banya, founder of Women, Change, Africa, an African woman’s lifestyle brand, shares a list of THE best spas to visit in West Africa.
Whether you’re looking for a massage, facial, or somewhere to get your nails done, there are numerous places that should be on your list of where you want to go to relax. There is nothing better than a good spa when hopping over to the continent for holidays. But the key is knowing where to go! I asked some of my sister friends in their various countries on the Continent about where their favorite spas to check out were, and came up with this list.
Here are five spas you to check out on your next holiday in some of my favorite cities in West Africa!
Niobe Spa (Accra, Ghana)
Set in the city of Accra, Niobe is a gem in many ways, with its multiple locations. This fully sourced retreat comes with a full spa service including massages, facials and even spa parties. When you are next in Accra check out their East Legon branch and you will not be disappointed.

This spa constantly puts their clientele first, from a happy hour for young professionals to a breast cancer awareness event, the services are authentic and relevant. What I also love about this spa is their usage of all-natural ingredients. Take time to visit Kente Spa on your next trip.

Nali Spa (Freetown, Sierra Leone)
There’s something about being home, but there is something even more special about knowing you have somewhere you can quickly escape to when you need a quick massage or facial. In Freetown, Nali is your go to. The wonderful ladies know how to treat each customer in the utmost special way. The spa also hosts a hair salon should you need a good hair color change, cut etc. When in Freetown don’t forget to swing by Na-Li.

Coco Ocean Resort & Spa (Bijilo, The Gambia)
My Gambian sisters boast of this location as the best place to get massages in town. I believe them! The spa is described as “A world class centre offering treatments from around the world”. What I love about this spa is how luxurious the hotel looks, so one is definitely in for a treat, get ready to feel like royalty and to be pampered.
