When it comes to your eyebrows, are you Solange or Jenifer Hudson? The last few years has seen a surge in popularity of the natural hair trend, which has seen many women of colour forgo chemicals to embrace their natural hair textures. Well it appears the movement has evolved to making every hair on your brow count too.
Big and bold brows are the new natural trend and it’s a good look! Many women are letting their real eyebrow shape flourish including celebrities such as, Amandla Stenberg and Solange Knowles who recently featured on the cover of Bust magazine, with her unapologetic and bold brows, discussing black feminism and her latest album.
In the beauty industry, eyebrows have always been a thing, you can argue that it is one of the most important features that characterises a woman’s face. Thicker eyebrows are definitely growing in popularity; it was one of the main areas of focus for makeup artists at this year’s London fashion week.
It can be challenging to go natural after threading your brows or plucking them for many years, but seeing your original brow shape is extremely satisfying.
In a survey I conducted among my makeup artists colleagues where I asked them which type of brow they preferred, a thin, manicured threaded brows or natural full brows? Seven out of 10 preferred thicker, bushier brows while the rest couldn’t decide as they loved both natural and threaded brows equally.
Many high-profile makeup artists like @kingmalimagic post pictures of their work with thicker eyebrows, while rocking a gorgeous full set herself.
Another reason you might want to consider growing out your eyebrows is because shaping your brows and highlighting can be time consuming and requires a lot of effort and skill, however keeping them natural is easy, effortless and simple and there are only a couple of steps to this.
Step 1: Use an eyebrow gel to style and shape to your preference
Step 2: Repeat step 1 every day. That’s it! You only need a good brow gel.
If you are reading this and are lucky enough to have never threaded or plucked your full eyebrows, you may be glad of the choice you made as it takes a very long time to grow them back once you get them trimmed; you can almost certainly never get them back to their original shape.
Finally, if you are worried about the fact that your fuller eyebrows are not identical, it’s okay. Make up professionals advise that eyebrows should be sisters, not identical twins and perfect. After all, we should all be our sister’s keeper.
