With half term just around the corner and many people still in recovery mode from the Christmas splurge, more and more of us are choosing to spend the upcoming February half-term with the kids, or a break with our significant other, closer to home.

When the weather is good in the UK there are some real gems dotted around and a ‘staycation’ could be a great idea. We’ve come up with a few options for you to consider, and the icing on the cake? They’re all accessible by car or by train!

Dorset

Rent your own villa in this picturesque countryside. Go for Burggraaf in Beaminster, which sleeps up to 12 people. Beautifully designed with great facilities and with a plethora of services available (meal delivery and spa services) so you don’t even have to leave. Fancy inviting another family or some friends? You can hire the house next door!

You can’t possibly go all the way to Beaminster in Dorset and not go on a Walking Llama or Donkey walking tour. It’s an experience not to be missed. You can also round off your evening with one of their renowned local wine tours.

London

Check out Cheval Three Quays. These gorgeous apartment types are set along the backdrop of both the Tower Bridge, Shard and River Thames, if you’re lucky enough to bag a room with a view overlooking one of them, you are in for a real treat, particularly at night …

With Cheval Residences as your base, you must visit the Tower of London which is close by and see London like you’ve never seen it before. Yes, take the lift 42 metres up to the glass floor and gather your courage to confidently walk across it and take some great photos. Booking in advance is essential though, you can book here.

Lake District

Hire a cottage with a backdrop of the stunning rolling hills and the beautiful lakes. Think quaint villages and mountains on either side of where you are and plenty to explore on foot! Two options are Lakelovers, which offer five star cottages and Golakes, which professes to be the official guide to the Lake District.

Remember to wear comfortable shoes! Some of the best things to do in this area are walking tours, cycling with the backdrop of those beautiful rolling hills, or boating on all those beautiful lakes – think activity in wide open spaces and adventure!

A second entry for London because you simply should visit Rafayel on Left Bank Hotel. It has architectural designed rooms with gorgeous floor to ceiling windows and five-star luxury complete with a 360 degree roof terrace. It’s riverside beauty at its best and based in South West London in Battersea.

If you plan to visit Rafayel, schedule in a visit to the local legendary Battersea Park. Complete with Art gallery and Zoo and views of London, it’s the perfect place to go for a Sunday stroll after a luxurious hotel breakfast and then maybe brunch at Bunga Bunga!

Scotland

We couldn’t leave out the beautiful city of Edinburgh, with landmarks such as Edinburgh Castle and attractions such as the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. It’s a city packed with everything, gorgeous landscapes and city staples like great eateries and the arts. We advise staying in a luxury apartment in the city to be close to everything and really experience all that the city has to offer. We recommend the Edinburgh Address.

While you’re in Edinburgh make sure you ride the tram! There’s also a Gin Distillery and you can of course book a tour. If the weather is dry and clear, check out St Giles’ Roof Top Tours. If you really want different however, there’s always Portobello Beach, a bus-ride away.

Staycations have really come back into their own over the last few years as more stylish attractions and experiences pop up across the UK map. Many have realised that you can have all of the fun of new places and people, without the jetlag!
